Description

Compiled by abolitionist Theodore Weld, along with his wife, Angelina Grimké and her sister, Sarah Grimké, this early volume on slavery in America was inspirational to Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. The Grimké sisters had been raised on a large slave plantation in South Carolina, giving them first-hand knowledge of the horrors of the institution. They became outspoken social activists and avid abolitionists, as well as advocates for women's rights, and traveled around the country to speak publicly on these topics.
